Is Your Wireless Internet Secure?

There are many advantages to wireless internet but depending on your setup it may also mean extra security risks to look out for. There are two main ways to get wireless and the right security will vary based on which option you’ve chosen. If you have a wired connection, such as DSL or Cable, and have your internet hooked up to a router, then you need to take special measures to ensure your internet is secure. When it is, only people who you’ve given the password to will be able to access your connection.

Some people wonder what the big deal is and don’t care if a visitor or neighbor signs on to their internet connection. However, keep in mind that a savvy hacker can gain access to any information on your computer via your wireless network. Some ISP providers offer extra security and 100% wireless internet doesn’t have the same issues as wired internet that’s run through a router. This is because that type of wireless is received via a secure connection right to your computer and there is no router involved. You can still access the internet from anywhere, in fact you can do so from anywhere in your entire coverage area – not just in your home.

HughesNet Satellite Internet Sets Example for Rural US — Satellite Internet is now coming to Remote Indonesian School Children

The Internet is truly reaching every corner of the earth.  A recent article in the Jakarta Globe reported that the Indonesian Ministry of Communication and Technology recently launched nearly two thousand Mobile Internet Service Centers to provide Internet service to areas in six rural provinces of that country.  Each unit will be comprised of a small bus that is equipped with six laptop computers hooked up to a satellite internet connection. These service centers are designed “to overcome the digital divide between urban and rural areas” said Tifatul Sembiring, Indonesia’s Minister of Information and Technology.  Of course companies like HughesNet Satellite Internet have been providing rural US areas with high-speed internet for some time now, but progress is slower in many other countries.

By the end of 2011 in Indonesia, 1,907 Mobile Internet Service Centers will be in operation with more coming next year.  The exact number will ultimately depend upon the final budget. Tifatul said the central government initially set up nearly 6,000 centers at the sub-district level.  “The trouble was that some were too remote to be reached. The new mobile centers can travel from ward to ward so school children can take turns accessing the Internet.”  No doubt there are numerous Internet service providers in your area to provide high-speed broadband service. It is much different in the remote areas of Indonesia — but they are catching up!
