Growing My Own Food with Raised Bed Kits
Growing up in the city was a great way to learn a lot of skills I would need in life but being able to grow my own food was not one of them. After watching several documentary films over the winter on our food source my wife and I decided to start a garden and grow at least some of our own food. I have a friend at work that always put in a huge garden on his place and since I don’t have near the space he has he suggested we start with a couple of raised bed kits. They are easy to put together and you have a small contained garden to practice your gardening skills on AND they don’t take up a lot of space!
Though we haven’t planted yet as it’s still a little too early where we live, it won’t be long. We did install the raised beds in the area of the yard that gets good sunshine and it’s also close to a watering source. My friend went with me to choose the dirt and helped me put down a weed barrier to give us a good start on being successful. The closer it gets to the time we can plant the more excited I get. Having some control over your food source is somehow empowering
